ALLENTOWN, PA – The Hartford Wolf Pack scored four unanswered goals on Saturday night to down the Lehigh Valley Phantoms 5-2 in their season opener at the PPL Center.

The Phantoms jumped out to a lead 5:32 into the hockey game when Jacob Gaucher potted the first goal of the season for either club. On the powerplay, Jack Studnicka sent a pass down the right-wing side to Ilya Pautov.

Pautov poked the puck on net but was denied by Gabriel Carriere. The rebound came right to Gaucher, however, and he was able to backhand the puck home to make it 1-0.

The Wolf Pack pressed and tied the game at 11:34 with their first goal of the season. Moments after Urho Vaakanainen rang the crossbar, Taylor Raddysh lit the lamp.

Raddysh took a pass from Cole Beaudoin in the slot and ripped home the equalizer. The goal was his first as a member of the Wolf Pack.

Gaucher restored the lead just 1:39 into middle period. The veteran forward walked down the left-wing side of the offensive zone and ripped a shot by the blocker of Carriere to make it 2-1. The goal was the Phantoms’ first five-on-five tally of the season.

The Wolf Pack’s second powerplay of the season midway through the period would help provide the equalizer.

Marc Del Gaizo took a cross-ice pass from Liam Greentree and fired a shot from the left-wing side. The puck bounced off a Phantom and came right to Juuso Pärssinen. P

WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Hartford Wolf Pack completed a weekend sweep of Pennsylvania on Sunday evening, downing the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 3-2 at Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza.

The Penguins scored the lone goal of the opening period just 1:29 in when a Jake Livanavage shot from the left-wing side snuck through traffic and beat Callum Tung.

Just 1:14 into the second period, the Wolf Pack responded. On the powerplay, Marc Del Gaizo stepped into a blast that beat Taylor Gauthier from the point. The goal, Hartford’s second powerplay strike of the season, was Del Gaizo’s first as a member of the Wolf Pack.

13:30 later, the Wolf Pack took the lead.

Cole Beaudoin, who assisted on Del Gaizo’s powerplay blast earlier in the period, set up Taylor Raddysh in the slot. The veteran snapped a shot that beat Gauthier for his second goal in as many nights at 14:44, making it 2-1 for the Wolf Pack.

For the first time this season, the Wolf Pack carried a lead into the third period. They made good on that lead, hanging on for their second victory in less than 24 hours.

Nathan Aspinall made it 3-1 at 17:23 of the third period, potting his first career-goal from the bottom of the right-wing circle. The goal, Hartford’s second on the powerplay on the night, proved to be the game-winner.

It was also Aspinall’s first career AHL goal and point.

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Hartford Wolf Pack picked up their third straight win to open the season on Friday night, blanking the Providence Bruins 2-0 at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence.

For the first time this season, the Wolf Pack drew first blood. Nathan Aspinall tapped a Marc Del Gaizo bid on net that was denied by Jiri Patera. The rebound bounced to the netminder’s right, however, and was picked up by Glenn Gawdin.

The veteran forward deposited the loose change at 10:01, giving him his first goal as a member of the Wolf Pack.

Aspinall’s assist was the first of his professional career, while Taylor Raddysh’s secondary helper was his first as a member of the Wolf Pack.

Callum Tung was the story in the middle frame, turning aside 12 Bruins shots to keep the Wolf Pack ahead 1-0 through 40 minutes.

Tung was perfect again in the final stanza, completing his first career AHL shutout with seven more saves. In all, Tung denied 28 Bruins shots to improve to 2-0-0 on the season.

Justin Dowling shutdown any potential comeback hopes for the Bruins with his first goal of the season at 19:49 of the final frame. Dowling hit the empty net off a feed from Raddysh.

The assist gave Raddysh his first multi-point game (2 a) as a member of the Wolf Pack.

For the second straight night, the Wolf Pack drew first blood. On their first powerplay of the night, Glenn Gawdin did an excellent job of keeping the puck in on the right-wing side. Gawdin fed Justin Dowling on the left-wing, who then snapped a quick pass to Liam Greentree in the right-wing circle.

Greentree blasted a shot by Joel Blomqvist for his first career goal at 11:35, making it 1-0 Wolf Pack.

The Penguins exploded offensively in the middle frame, scoring five times to take control of the hockey game.

Bill Zonnon tied the game 1:36 into the period, banking in the puck off a body in the crease for his first career regular season goal.

Atley Calvert then gave the Penguins the lead at 4:38, tipping home a shot from Caleb Jones for his third goal of the season.

The Penguins collected their first shorthanded goal of the season at 9:15 after the Wolf Pack turned the puck over in the offensive zone. On an odd-man rush the other way, Avery Hayes took a pass from Zonnon and beat Gabriel Carriere for his second goal of the season to make it 3-1.

Zonnon scored his second goal of the night at 10:52, then Mikhail Ilyin buried a powerplay tally from the right-wing circle at 17:11 to make it 5-1.

HARTFORD, CT – The Hartford Wolf Pack lost their second straight game on Sunday afternoon, 5-2 at the hands of the Laval Rocket at PeoplesBank Arena.  

Anton Blidh drew first blood in this contest, giving the Wolf Pack the game’s first goal for the third straight outing. On the powerplay, Nathan Aspinall fired a shot from the left-wing side that Kaapo Kähkönen denied. The rebound sat in the blue paint, where Blidh collected it and stuffed it home for his first goal of the season at 4:20.

Luke Mittelstadt countered at 13:49, however, drawing the Rocket even. From the left-wing circle, he snapped a shot that beat Callum Tung by the glove for his second goal of the season.

Josh Nadeu gave the Rocket the lead at 17:18, chipping his first career professional goal by Tung on the powerplay after a scramble in front of the crease.

Sasha Pastujov extended the lead late in the second period, giving the Rocket their second powerplay strike of the late afternoon. Pastujov tipped a Laurent Dauphin shot by Tung at 19:21, giving him his third goal as a member of the Rocket.

8:15 into the third period, the Rocket again extended their lead, this time making it a 4-1 game as Dauphin notched his first goal of the season.

HARTFORD, CT – The Hartford Wolf Pack dropped their third straight game on Wednesday night, 4-1 to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms at PeoplesBank Arena.

The Wolf Pack controlled a majority of the first period but were unable to beat Phantoms goaltender Carson Bjarnason. Bjarnason made 12 saves to keep the score 0-0, including a few saves during a flurry of chances in the crease.

Callum Tung was not to be outdone. He made eleven saves in the period, including a beautiful glove save on Carl Grundström during the Phantoms’ lone powerplay of the period.

Grundström lit the lamp 16:21 into the middle frame, potting his first goal of the season off the rush. Grundström took a pass in the right-wing circle from Jett Luchanko and beat Tung by the left pad to make it a 1-0 game.

Just 65 seconds later, the Wolf Pack drew even.

Cole Beaudoin pushed the puck ahead to Taylor Raddysh, who drove into the offensive zone on the right-wing side. At the bottom of the right-wing circle, Raddysh transferred to the backhand and lifted a shot over the right shoulder of Bjarnason to make it 1-1.

The goal, scored at 17:26, was Raddysh’s third of the season.

The Phantoms retook the lead for good 7:14 into the third period. Noah Powell picked up the loose puck in the left-wing circle and ripped a shot through traffic by Tung for his first goal of the season.

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Hartford Wolf Pack dropped their fourth straight game on Friday night, 2-1 to the Charlotte Checkers at Bojangles Coliseum.  

For the second game in a row, the Wolf Pack would play to a 0-0 tie through 20 minutes of play. Callum Tung was perfect in the Wolf Pack net, making 17 saves. Kirill Gerasimyuk was equal to the task in the Charlotte end, making eleven stops in the opening frame.

The Checkers drew first blood 1:38 into the second period. Donovan Sebrango took a shot from the right-wing circle that beat Tung for his first goal as a member of the Checkers. Gracyn Sawchyn and Nathan Bastian picked up the assists on the goal.

Bryce McConnell-Barker drew the Wolf Pack even at 8:50, ripping home his first goal of the season. McConnell-Barker led a two-on-one rush into the offensive zone as the Wolf Pack worked left-to-right. From the right-wing side, McConnell-Barker outwaited a defenseman, worked into the slot, and snapped a shot by Gerasimyuk to make it 1-1.

Unfortunately for the Wolf Pack, the third period proved to be costly for the second straight outing.

At 15:10 of the final frame, Cole Reinhardt was whistled for goaltender interference. The Wolf Pack powerplay surrendered their second shorthanded goal of the season, giving the Checkers the lead for good.

Two early goals from the home side had the Wolf Pack in a hole just 6:37 into the hockey game.

Brett Chorske broke the ice 1:07 into the game when a Gracyn Sawchyn bid from the right-wing side pinballed around and ended up behind Gabriel Carriere. Chorske was in the right place at the right time and tucked home his first goal of the season to make it 1-0.

Tobias Björnfot extended the lead to 2-0 at 6:37 when he blasted a shot through traffic from the left-wing point. The goal, assisted by Angus Crookshank and Nathan Bastian, was his first of the season.

Jaroslav ChmelaĹ™ stopped the bleeding and got the Wolf Pack on the board at 8:45, scoring his first goal of the season in just his second outing. On their first powerplay of the night, Glenn Gawdin would take a pass at the right-wing point and fling a shot toward the net.

ChmelaĹ™ provided the fly-by, deflecting the puck home to make it a 2-1 contest.

HARTFORD, CT – The Hartford Wolf Pack snapped their five-game losing streak on Friday night with a 2-0 shutout victory over the Providence Bruins at PeoplesBank Arena.

The win marked the second shutout victory for the Wolf Pack over the Bruins this season. They are now 2-0-0-0 over their Atlantic Division rivals.   

The Bruins controlled possession in the opening frame, outshooting the Wolf Pack 14-4. James Reimer was the headliner of the period, making 14 saves in his Wolf Pack debut to keep the score 0-0.

Reimer was sensational again in the second period, making another twelve saves to keep the score 0-0 entering the third period.

The Wolf Pack nearly opened the scoring in the final minute of the middle stanza. After a successful penalty kill, Liam Greentree was sprung in on a breakaway. The rookie forward was denied by the right pad of Simon ZajíÄŤek, however.

Greentree was hooked on the play, giving the Wolf Pack their second powerplay of the night entering the third period.

On that powerplay, Greentree broke the ice. Glenn Gawdin kept the puck in and fed Greentree at the backdoor. There, the rookie tapped home his team-leading fourth goal of the season at 57 seconds to make it a 1-0 game.

WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Hartford Wolf Pack dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday night in northeast Pennsylvania.

The Wolf Pack put forth a strong road period in the opening 20 minutes, outshooting the Penguins 12-9 and applying pressure early.

Taylor Gauthier was good in net for the Penguins, making twelve stops to keep them even. Callum Tung was strong as well for the Wolf Pack, making nine saves to give them a fourth straight period without a goal allowed.

Glenn Gawdin broke the ice 4:50 into the middle frame, burying his second goal as a member of the Wolf Pack. Nathan Aspinall swung a pass to Gawdin in the slot, where he quickly released a shot that beat Gauthier to make it a 1-0 game.

Jackson Dorrington collected the secondary assist on the tally, his first of the season.

The Penguins finally got on the board 10:27 into the third period when Finn Harding potted his first goal of the season to even the affair 1-1. Just over four minutes later, at 14:34, Tristan Broz gave the home side a lead.

His third goal of the season came after a Harding shot was denied by Tung, but the rebound sat to the netminder’s right. Broz stuffed it home to make it 2-1.

HAMILTON, ON – The Hartford Wolf Pack surrendered four power play goals on Thursday night, dropping a 5-4 overtime decision to the Hamilton Hammers at TD Coliseum.  

Jaroslav ChemlaĹ™ opened the scoring 7:11 into the game, potting the Wolf Pack’s first shorthanded goal of the season.

Carey Terrance made a brilliant play in the neutral zone, getting the puck to ChemlaĹ™ despite tumbling down to the ice. ChemlaĹ™ sped by Ryan Healey, cut to the net, and beat Josh Kotai to give the Wolf Pack a 1-0 lead.

Hunter Drew responded 27 seconds later at 7:38, tipping home a Kashawn Aitcheson shot on the power play. Drew’s goal was his first of the season.

The Wolf Pack restored their lead at 9:48 when Matthew Robertson scored his first goal of the season. Justin Dowling fed Robertson at the top of the zone, where he fired a shot into traffic. The puck snuck by Kotai, making it 2-1.

Dowling’s assist on the goal, his third of the season, was the 300th of his AHL career.

Brody Lamb extended the lead to 3-1 at 10:44, potting his first goal of the season. After collecting a pass from Glenn Gawdin, Lamb sped by Healey, burst down the left-wing side, and beat Kotai with a backhander.

Late in the period, the Hammers drew within one with their second power play goal of the night.
