PACK MENTALITY: BRYCE MCCONNELL-BARKER

Jul 2, 2026

HARTFORD, CT – Bryce McConnell-Barker’s professional journey took another step forward during the 2025-26 campaign. In his second season, the young forward set career-high marks in goals (14), assists (11) and points (25).

His growth as a player went beyond the stat sheet. The London, ON native also feels he continued to grow as a pro, learning how to be successful on and off the ice at the AHL level.

“I learned a lot about consistency and what it takes to be a pro every single day,” he said when asked about what he took from his second season in Hartford.

“I learned how to prepare, recover and bring the same attitude to the rink whether things were going my way or not. I also learned the importance of trusting the process and being a reliable teammate that the coaches and players can count on in any situation.”

McConnell-Barker used a strong end to his season to build confidence heading into an important summer. In his last ten games, the young forward lit the lamp five times to help lead the offensive attack for the Wolf Pack.

While he’s hoping to be a key offensive contributor in his third season, McConnell-Barker is still focused on making sure he can contribute in all areas of the game. His approach this summer has not changed despite his offensive surge.

“My focus this off-season is on becoming a more complete player all around,” he said. “I want to get stronger and faster, work on my skating and being difficult to play against. My goal is to put myself in the best position to help the team win and take another step individually.”

Putting himself in the best position to help the team win will require a fast start.

After a two-year absence from the Calder Cup Playoffs, the Wolf Pack are looking to establish themselves back among the top teams in the Atlantic Division.

To do that, McConnell-Barker knows that starting fast is imperative for this group.

“It would be huge,” he said about hitting the ground running in October. “Getting off to a good start builds confidence for the team and creates momentum that can carry through the year. Having missed the playoffs the last two years, I know our group will be hungry and ready to do what it takes to make the playoffs.”

That won’t be the only motivator for McConnell-Barker and his teammates to be ready for training camp in September. The club has a new bench boss, as Jay Leach takes over.

Training camp will be an opportunity not just to prepare for the season, but also to impress a new coaching staff that will be looking for players to step up and lead the way.

McConnell-Barker is aware of the opportunity at hand but isn’t shying away from the approach that has allowed him to take steps in each of his first two seasons.

“My approach won’t really change,” he said when asked about trying to impress a new coaching staff.

“I want to show up in great shape, work hard every day, and be someone who competes and does the little things right. Obviously, first impressions matter, so I want to prove and earn opportunities and be someone the coaches can trust in all situations.”

One area in which his approach may change is in the room. Entering his third season as a pro, McConnell-Barker is no longer just a young player in the Connecticut capital. He’s now a tenured player who the rookies entering pro hockey will look up to.

Slowly but surely, McConnell-Barker is becoming a leader in Hartford.

That fact is not lost on him. It’s something he has thought about, and something he is embracing.

“I think leadership comes in a lot of different forms,” he said when asked about taking on that role. “I’d like to lead with my work ethic, habits, and the way I treat my teammates every day. If younger guys have questions or need support, I want to be someone they can lean on. At the same time, I’m still learning myself, so it’s about continuing to grow while helping create a positive culture in the room.”
