Devils Blank Wolf Pack

Nov 15, 2013

Keith Kinkaid made 25 saves for the Albany Devils Friday night at the XL Center, to hand the Wolf Pack its second straight shutout-against, a 3-0 Albany victory.

The Wolf Pack were also shut out Sunday in Providence, falling by a score of 6-0.

“I thought we played better, but that’s hockey right now,” Wolf Pack captain Aaron Johnson said.  “Just one mistake and they end up in the back of your net.”

Hartford outshot Albany 25-20 in Friday’s game, but the Devils got all of the offense they would need inside the first seven minutes of the game.

Riley Boychuk knocked home a rebound for his first AHL goal, and a 1-0 Albany lead, at 2:40.  After Wolf Pack goaltender Jason Missiaen (17 saves) stopped a deflected shot from the left point, Boychuk was able to shove the rebound through Missiaen’s pads and in.

Albany then converted a two-on-one at 6:57 for a 2-0 lead.  Dan Kelly fed a lead pass out of the Devil end to Rostislav Olesz, who broke down the left side and fed across the slot to Joe Whitney for a tap-in.

The Wolf Pack dominated the second period territorially, outshooting the Devils 12-2, but Kinkaid made several sharp saves.

The third period was a standoff until the Wolf Pack pulled Missiaen in a four-on-four situation, and Devil captain Rod Pelley took advantage of a fortunate carom off of the boards to score an empty-net goal with 1:16 remaining.

The loss was the Wolf Pack’s fourth straight in regulation, and Hartford is now winless in its last five games (0-4-0-1).

The Wolf Pack are back in action Saturday night, making their first visit to Bridgeport to battle the Sound Tigers.  Faceoff is 7:00 PM, and all the action can be heard live on Fox Sports Radio 1410, and on-line at www.foxsportsradio1410.com and iHeartRadio.  Video streaming is available at www.ahllive.com.

The Pack’s next home game at the XL Center is Wednesday, November 27, a 7:00 date with the Portland Pirates.  That game features a “Movember” tribute to the importance of men’s health awareness.  The first 1,000 fans into the game on November 27, which faces off at 7:00 PM, will receive a free Movember “mustache” t-shirt.  The shirt depicts Sonar, the Wolf Pack’s beloved mascot, proudly showing off his Movember “’stache”.  Also, the proceeds from that night’s “Chuck-a-Puck” promotion will be donated to Gaylord Hospital of Wallingford, CT, for its men’s health efforts.
