WOLF PACK UNLEASHED: ADAM SÝKORA

Jun 5, 2025

HARTFORD, CT – Adam Sýkora wasted no time becoming a fan favorite in Hartford during his rookie season. As an encore, Sýkora set career-high marks in goals, assists, and points in his second season with the club, taking another step in his development.

The work is far from over for the Piestany, SVK native, however. Even after over 130 career AHL games, Sýkora is still learning and growing as a player.

“I learned quite a bit in year two,” he observed following the conclusion of the season. “I learned that if I want to play in the NHL, I just need to improve myself. I’ve learned my weaknesses, I know what I have to do better. I just need to continue to work on everything that I can and just get better.”

As a rookie, Sýkora appeared in 66 games and recorded 23 points (8 g, 15 a). He made an immediate impression on the fanbase with his infectious smile and hard working style of play.

This past season, those traits continued to impress, while Sýkora took a step offensively. In a career-high 71 games, the former second round pick hit the 30 point mark, scoring a career-high nine goals and 21 assists.

“I was excited to hit that milestone in the season finale,” Sýkora said of scoring 30 points. “I know in December, I had almost 20 points at that time, so it wasn’t the second half I wanted offensively. In February and March, I needed to produce better. I’m really happy to have hit the 30 point mark, it’s a career season for me, so I’m really happy about that. I also know I should have had more points this year, so I just have to keep working so next season I can produce even more.”

Sýkora also knows exactly what he needs to work on to improve his offensive output in his third pro season in North America. He was quick to point out that finishing the chances he helps to create will be key for him during the 2025-26 campaign.

“When I get a chance, I need to finish it,” he said when asked about what he hopes to improve on this summer. “I think I get a good number of chances in games, so I just need to finish better. Just don’t overthink situations.”

While Sýkora’s focus was mainly on his offensive game, it would be a mistake to overlook one area in which he has become key for the Wolf Pack. Sýkora was tasked with being arguably the team’s top penalty killing winger this past season.

It’s a role he embraces and is hoping to continue thriving on in the fall.

“I think it’s just a really important area of the game where I can help my team,” he said when asked about his role on the penalty kill. “It’s important for me and the team to not get scored on, it’s a point of pride. I really enjoy playing on the penalty kill because it’s about battling, it’s about working hard, it’s my identity. It’s a job that I think I fit really well, and I hope to be doing it more again next season.”

At just 20 years old, Sýkora is already a fan favorite in the Connecticut capital. He’s a mainstay for the Wolf Pack on the penalty kill, and he’s already achieved his first 30 point season in the AHL.

There’s a hunger within the young Slovak winger. With the IIHF Men’s World Championship now behind him, Sýkora is fully focused on preparing for training camp in September.

“I’m just excited to get better this summer,” he said. “I want to come back here in the fall and improve everything that I can and show myself that I can play, I can make plays, and I can be a great player for this team and this organization.”
