Magnus Hellberg made 32 saves for his second shutout of the season, and Marek Hrivik’s late-first period goal was the only scoring of the game, as the Wolf Pack defeated the Springfield Falcons 1-0 Friday night at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, MA.

The Wolf Pack won their third straight game, in their first of five straight road outings.  Nicklas Treutle stopped 27 of 28 Wolf Pack shots in the Springfield net.

“Everybody did their part, we battled hard for each other and we kept them on the outside,” Hellberg said.  “Everybody let me see the first shot, and if there was a rebound, they were there to help me out.  Everybody was really good today, it’s something we can build off, for sure.”

The game’s only goal came with 3:16 left in the first period, as Matt Lindblad worked the puck out of the left-wing corner in the Springfield zone to Hrivik, who headed around behind the net.  Hrivik then wrapped the puck around the goal post to the left of Treutle, and it went underneath Treutle’s pads and into the net.

The goal was Hrivik’s sixth of the season, and second in as many games, and the lone assist went to Lindblad, for his first point in seven games in a Wolf Pack uniform.

The closest calls for Hellberg were a Christian Thomas bid that went off the crossbar in the second period, and an Alex Grant power-play shot that caught iron in the third period, but it was Hellberg’s night, allowing him to improve his record back above the .500 mark, to 11-10-2.  The Wolf Pack as a team moved to 17-19-2-0 for 36 points, as they reached the halfway point of their season.

The Wolf Pack are right back in action Saturday night, traveling to Allentown, PA for a 7:00 battle with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.  All of the action of that contest can be heard live on News Radio 1410 WPOP, and on-line at www.newsradio1410.com and iHeartRadio.  Video streaming is available at www.ahllive.com.
