RANGERS ASSIGN GABE PERREAULT AND SCOTT MORROW TO HARTFORD WOLF PACK

ALEX THOMAS TO APPEAR ON RANGERS RADIO BROADCASTS FOR 2025-26 SEASON

Oct 9, 2025

The Hartford Wolf Pack and the Oak View Group are happy to announce that our very own Alex Thomas will be filling in on play-by-play for the parent club New York Rangers on radio broadcasts this upcoming season. Thomas is entering his fifth season as the play-by-play voice of the Wolf Pack, and will now be fulfilling a lifetime dream with his upcoming work at the NHL level.

He’ll make his radio debut on Oct. 9 as the New York Rangers visit the Buffalo Sabres. For Thomas, the passion for sports broadcasting stretches back to early on in his life. “I’ve always wanted to be a play-by-play broadcaster”, Thomas said.

Thomas detailed how he found out the news, “In July, I learned of the possibility of fill-in work and made it known I’d be interested. A few weeks later I had a conversation and found out I’d be getting the opportunity…First thing I did was call my parents to tell them, which is probably the most special phone call I’ve ever had”.

This opportunity for Thomas comes after years of building a strong relationship with the Rangers, as well as being able to shadow Rangers play-by-play TV announcer Kenny Albert in the booth during the 2024-25 NHL season, getting a peak behind the curtain at the radio production side.

The path to this point was filled with core experiences in collegiate settings, where Thomas called the action for a multitude of sports beyond hockey including baseball, lacrosse, basketball, and field hockey. This work shaped Thomas into the broadcaster he is today. “Having had those reps, I know exactly how I want to prepare and the questions I want to ask leading into a broadcast”, Thomas explained. “I gained a lot of versatility doing those games, and am forever grateful to those colleges for giving me those reps”.

Thomas has seen firsthand the emergence of large crowds at PeoplesBank Arena in his previous four seasons in Hartford, as he took the reigns while the COVID-19 pandemic was still at large. “It’s been quite a ride. Watching the crowds grow over the prior four seasons has been very exciting and has brought an atmosphere to PeoplesBank Arena that makes coming to work and calling these games so much fun”, Thomas said.

“I can’t thank the Rangers enough for this opportunity, the Wolf Pack for giving me a chance to come to Hartford four seasons ago, and my friends and my family for all of their support even when times were tough and I wasn’t sure this career was going to work out”, Thomas remarked.

As for our Wolf Pack broadcasts this season, Sean Dufresne will be providing play-by-play commentary in relief of Alex Thomas on select occasions for home and away broadcasts. Dufresne has spent the last two seasons in Hartford working alongside Thomas in a color commentary role on home broadcasts, as well as appearing on the Inside the Den pregame show. “I’m really excited for Alex. He truly deserves this opportunity for all the hard work he’s put in both behind the scenes and on the air”, Dufresne said. “His passion for broadcasting is second to none, and it’s been an honor to work alongside him these past two years. I’m looking forward to continuing our great partnership this upcoming season”.

Thomas’ story demonstrates the true effectiveness of the American Hockey League as a development league, one where the ability to evolve and reach the next level is achievable by anyone with hard work and a good attitude. It also shows that persistence pays off. “There have been so many nights over the years where, honestly, I wasn’t sure this day would come”, Thomas said. “I’m extremely excited for this, but also very grateful for the opportunity and for everyone who has helped along the way”.
