Wolf Pack Weekly, November 20-26

Nov 20, 2017

The Wolf Pack (7-8-2-1, 17 pts., .472) had a strong finish to a three-game week this past week, taking down the Utica Comets in Utica, 4-1, on Saturday night in their last action.  Rookies Filip Chytil, with two goals, and Vinni Lettieri, with a goal and two assists, led the way in the victory, after the Wolf Pack had fallen 2-1 in overtime to Bridgeport at home on Wednesday, and 4-2 to the Rochester Americans Friday night in Rochester.

This week:  The Wolf Pack celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with their fourth three-game weekend of the season, starting Friday night at Bridgeport (7:00 PM faceoff).  Then it’s back home to host the Hershey Bears on Saturday night at 7:00, and the Wolf Pack finish the weekend in Springfield on Sunday, with a 3:05 game vs. the Thunderbirds.

Friday, November 24 at the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (Islanders) at the Webster Bank Arena, 7:00 PM

  • This is already the fifth installment of a ten-game season series between the AHL’s two Nutmeg State teams, and the Wolf Pack have gone 1-2-1-0 thus far on the year vs. their in-state rivals.  Hartford’s one win in the series was in their last visit to Bridgeport, a 2-1 victory last Saturday night.
  • The Sound Tigers have won three straight since that home loss to the Wolf Pack last Saturday, including a 2-1 overtime verdict in a rematch Wednesday night at the XL Center, and have prevailed in six of their last eight outings.
  • Bridgeport defenseman Devon Toews, a former Quinnipiac University Bobcat who scored both Sound Tiger goals in their overtime win in Hartford on Wednesday, has now lit the lamp in three straight (4-1-5), after going without a goal in Bridgeport’s first 13 games.

  • This is the second meeting of the season between the Wolf Pack and Bears, and Hershey’s first visit to the XL Center.  In the season series opener October 29 in Hershey, the Bears posted a 4-3 win.  The Wolf Pack were 3-4-1-0 in last year’s season series vs. Hershey, with a 2-2-0-0 record at home.
  • The Bears come into the week exactly at .500, with a record of 8-8-0-2 for 18 points, one point ahead of the Wolf Pack in the Atlantic Division standings.  The Bears have gone 7-3-0-1 in their last 11, after a 1-5-0-1 start.
  • Bear veteran forward, and former Wolf Pack, Chris Bourque leads the AHL in both points and assists, with 7-18-25 in 18 games.

  • With six points (1-5-6) in the last three games, veteran winger Alexandre Grenier has moved into the Springfield team scoring lead, with 4-14-18 in 19 games.
