Wolf Pack to Hold Thanksgiving Food Drive

Nov 5, 2013

Global Spectrum today invited hockey fans to participate in a Thanksgiving food drive at the Wolf Pack’s next two home games.

The Wolf Pack are partnering with Freshplace, a food pantry that serves the Hartford area, in encouraging Pack fans to bring canned goods to the Wolf Pack’s games at the XL Center this Friday, November 8 vs. the Providence Bruins and next Friday, November 15 against the Albany Devils.  Any patron who donates five cans of food will receive a voucher for a complimentary ticket to an upcoming Pack home game.

Freshplace, a program of Chrysalis Center, Inc., is a fresh food pantry serving Hartford’s Upper Albany and Asylum Hill neighborhoods.  In contrast to typical food pantries, at which people receive a bag of food that may or may not meet their family’s needs, Freshplace enables patrons to choose foods that meet the health and cultural needs of their families. Patrons also learn how to prepare the fresh vegetables they select. Freshplace is a collaborative project among Chrysalis Center, the Junior League of Hartford and Foodshare.

Freshplace provides fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy, meat and staple items to low-income families.  The program also links patrons to community support services for job training and education, employment, health and mental health treatment, legal assistance and more.  Additionally, Freshplace conducts research, through the University of Connecticut, to evaluate the effectiveness of its project.  Freshplace project partners are committed to sharing research results of this innovative model that addresses the root causes of people’s need for hunger relief, and hope that the Freshplace model will be replicated in other low-income communities.

Both the November 8 and November 15 Wolf Pack games face off at 7:00 PM, and tickets for all Wolf Pack 2013-14 home games are on sale now at the Public Power Ticket Office at the XL Center, on-line at www.hartfordwolfpack.com and by phone at (877) 522-8499.  Wolf Pack tickets start as low as $12 for youth 12 years old or younger.  To speak with a representative about season or group tickets, call (855) 762-6451.
