Rangers Recall Skjei

Dec 15, 2015

New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has recalled defenseman Brady Skjei from the Wolf Pack.

Skjei, 21, has skated in 27 games with the Wolf Pack this season, registering two goals and nine assists for 11 points, along with four penalty minutes. He is tied for fourth on Hartford in assists and ranks sixth on the team in points in 2015-16. In addition, Skjei leads Wolf Pack defensemen – as well as all rookies on the team – in assists and points thus far this season. Skjei has tallied a point in seven of his last 14 AHL games (two goals, six assists over the span), and he has notched nine points (two goals, seven assists) in his last 18 AHL games. He skated in two preseason games with the Rangers this year, registering three points (one goal, two assists) and posting a plus-four rating in those contests.

The 6-3, 215-pounder made his AHL/professional debut with the Wolf Pack on Apr. 3, 2015 vs. Syracuse. Skjei skated in eight regular season games with Hartford in 2014-15, posting a plus-two rating in those contests. In addition, he registered one goal and two assists for three points in 15 playoff games with the Wolf Pack last season and helped the team advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Prior to making his professional debut, Skjei played three seasons of collegiate hockey at the University of Minnesota (2012-13 – 2014-15). In 109 career collegiate games, Skjei registered eight goals and 19 assists for 27 points, along with a plus-33 rating and 76 penalty minutes. He posted a plus-seven rating or better in each of his three seasons at the University of Minnesota, and he helped the Golden Gophers capture the Big Ten Regular Season Championship and the Big Ten Tournament Championship in 2014-15.

The Lakeville, Minnesota native was originally selected by the Rangers in the first round, 28th overall, of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
