Wolf Pack Weekly, October 31-November 6

Oct 31, 2016

The Wolf Pack started this past week with their second overtime win of the season, a 3-2 decision at home vs. Hershey Wednesday, but then suffered their first back-to-back losses of the 2016-17 campaign.  The Lehigh Valley Phantoms came into the XL Center on Friday night and knocked off the Wolf Pack by a 5-1 score, and then the Utica Comets defeated the Wolf Pack at home on Saturday in a back-and-forth battle, 4-3.  Ryan Graves tallied his first career pro overtime goal to win Wednesday’s game, and then scored again on Saturday, and Boo Nieves had his first three-point game as a pro in Saturday’s contest, with a goal and two assists.

This week:  The Wolf Pack play their third annual “Sonar’s Edu-Skate” school-day game Wednesday at the XL Center vs. the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, with faceoff at 11:00 AM.  Then a season-high six-game Wolf Pack homestand wraps up Friday night against Bridgeport at 7:15, before the Pack starts three straight on the road Saturday night at Providence (7:05).

Wednesday, November 2 vs. the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (Philadelphia) at the XL Center, 11:00 AM

  • This is the Wolf Pack’s third annual “Sonar’s Edu-Skate” school-day game, with plenty of educational fun on tap throughout the day.  For information on bringing a school group to the Edu-Skate game, contact the Wolf Pack ticket office at (855) 762-6451.

  • This is also another Wolf Pack “Click It or Ticket Family Value Pack” game.  The Family Value Pack includes two tickets, two sodas and two hot dogs, all for just $40.

  • Once again this season, every Wednesday-night home game is a “Winning Wednesday”.  If the Wolf Pack win, fans can show their Winning Wednesday ticket at the Agera Energy Ticket Office at the XL Center and receive a free ticket to the next Wolf Pack home game, which is this Friday, November 4 vs. Bridgeport (some restrictions apply).

  • This is already the third matchup of the season between the Wolf Pack and the Phantoms, and the third meeting in a span of 12 days.  The two clubs have split the first two clashes, the Wolf Pack taking a 5-4 overtime decision in Allentown last Saturday and Lehigh Valley responding with a 5-1 win at the XL Center on Friday.

  • Phantom forward Jordan Weal, who was the Calder Cup Playoff MVP for the Manchester Monarchs in 2015, had a goal and three assists in Lehigh Valley’s 5-1 win over the Wolf Pack Friday night in Hartford.

  • The Phantoms are 2-3-1-0 for five points on the year, having followed up Friday night’s victory over the Wolf Pack with losses Saturday night at Bridgeport (5-4) and Sunday in Hershey (3-2).

  • Tickets for this and all 2016-17 Wolf Pack home games are on sale now at the Agera Energy Ticket Office at the XL Center, on-line at www.hartfordwolfpack.com and by phone at (877) 522-8499.  Tickets purchased in advance for kids 12 or younger are just $10 each, and all tickets will have a $2 day-of-game increase.

Friday, November 4 vs. the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (Islanders) at the XL Center, 7:15 PM

  • The first 2,000 fans through the doors on this night will receive a free Wolf Pack license plate cover, courtesy of Aetna.

  • At this and every Friday-night home game this season, fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs and $2 beers through the start of the second period.

  • This is the first of eight meetings on the year between the Wolf Pack and their in-state rivals, and the first of four Bridgeport visits to the XL Center.  The Wolf Pack were 4-6-0-0 in a 10-game season series last year, but were 3-2-0-0 in five home games vs. the Sound Tigers.

  • Head Coach, and former Wolf Pack defenseman, Brent Thompson’s Sound Tigers are 4-3-0-0 for eight points through their first seven games.  Bridgeport had a two-game winning streak snapped in their last action, a 2-0 home loss Sunday to Springfield.

  • 12th-year pro Bracken Kearns leads the Sound Tigers in points, with 4-4-8, but the next three top Bridgeport scorers are all rookies.  Josh Ho-Sang has 1-5-6, and Michael Dal Colle (3-1-4) and Tanner Fritz (2-2-4) have chipped in four points apiece.

Saturday, November 5 at the Providence Bruins (Boston) at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center Providence, 7:05 PM

  • This is the opener of a ten-game season series between the Wolf Pack and the arch-rival Bruins this season, and the first of five trips for the Wolf Pack to Providence.  The Pack were 5-2-1-0 in eight games vs. the P-Bruins last season, and won their last two visits to the Dunkin’ Donuts Center Providence after defeats in their first two.

  • The Bruins are off to a 2-4-2-0 (6 pts.) start under new head coach Kevin Dean, who was an assistant to Bruce Cassidy the last five years.  Providence has at least a standings point in three of its last four games (1-1-2-0).

  • Rookie forward Peter Cehlarik (2-2-4 in 5 GP) and sixth-year pro defenseman Matt Bartkowski (1-3-4 in 8 GP) are tied for the Providence team scoring lead.
