Wolf Pack Weekly, November 25-December 1

Nov 25, 2013

It was a tough week offensively for the Wolf Pack (8-8-0-2, 18 pts.), as a pair of road games both ended in shutouts-against.  The Albany Devils hung a 3-0 loss on the Pack Wednesday, and then the Springfield Falcons posted a 4-0 win in an I-91 rivalry game on Saturday.  Scott Stajcer and Jason Missiaen split the two games in the Hartford net, with Stajcer stopping 22 out of 25 shots in Wednesday’s game and Missiaen making 19 saves on Saturday.

This week:
The Wolf Pack celebrate Thanksgiving weekend with a pair of home games this week.  The Pack will host the Portland Pirates on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM, and the Eastern Conference-leading Manchester Monarchs visit the XL Center on Saturday night for a 7:00 game.  In between, Hartford travels to Bridgeport for a Friday-night date with the Sound Tigers, which also faces off at 7:00.

Wednesday, November 27 vs. the Portland Pirates at the XL Center, 7:00 PM

  • This game features a “Movember” tribute to the importance of men’s health awareness.  The first 1,000 fans into the XL Center receive a free Movember “mustache” t-shirt.  The shirt depicts Sonar, the Wolf Pack’s beloved mascot, proudly showing off his Movember “’stache”.  Also, the proceeds from “Chuck-a-Puck” will be donated to Gaylord Hospital of Wallingford, CT, for its men’s health efforts.
  • This is another Wolf Pack “Winning Wednesday”.  As at all Wednesday night home games, if the Wolf Pack win, each fan receives a free ticket to the Pack’s next home game, which is this Saturday night, November 30 against Manchester (some restrictions apply, check the Wolf Pack’s official website, www.hartfordwolfpack.com, for full details).
  • After a 2-5-0-1 start, the Pirates (7-5-1-2, 17 pts.) have at least a standings point in seven consecutive games (5-0-1-1).  Portland sits fourth in the Atlantic Division, two points behind third-place Providence and two points up on fifth-place Worcester.
  • Rookie Tobias Rieder (6-2-8) is tied for the Pirates’ team goal-scoring lead, despite having played in only eight of the team’s 15 games.
  • The Wolf Pack and Pirates have split two previous meetings this season, with each winning on the other’s home ice.  Hartford scored a 3-2 win in Lewiston October 19, and Portland broke back with a 4-2 victory at the XL Center October 23.
  • The Wolf Pack will be collecting donations from fans of used hockey equipment at this game, for use by the participants in a Hartford Police Athletic League program to offer underprivileged youth the opportunity to try ice hockey.  Any patron who brings a donation of good used hockey gear will receive a voucher for a free ticket to a future Wolf Pack game at the XL Center.  The Police Athletic League will then be conducting hockey clinics on the XL Center ice on multiple dates later in the fall and winter.
  • For this and all Wolf Pack home games, tickets start as low as $12 for youth 12 years old or younger and are available at the Public Power Ticket Office at the XL Center, on-line at www.hartfordwolfpack.com and by phone at (877) 522-8499.

Friday, November 29 at the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (Webster Bank Arena), 7:00 PM

  • The Wolf Pack are 2-0 vs. the Sound Tigers this season, having defeated Bridgeport 5-3 in Hartford October 30 and 4-1 on the road November 16.
  • The Sound Tigers (4-9-1-3, 12 pts.) played three one-goal games over this past weekend, and registered two shootout losses and a regulation defeat.  Bridgeport is 0-4-0-2 in its last six outings and is in fifth place in the Northeast Division, four points behind Adirondack and six points in back of the third-place Wolf Pack.
  • Bridgeport point-scoring leader Ryan Strome (4-15-19 in 17 GP) tops all AHL rookies in assists, and is tied for fourth overall in the AHL in that category.
