Wolf Pack Weekly, May 4-10

May 4, 2015

The Wolf Pack captured their best-of-five, first-round playoff series with the Providence Bruins in dramatic fashion Friday, prevailing in the winner-take-all Game Five at home, 3-2 in overtime.  Tommy Hughes’ first pro playoff goal at 4:35 of the extra session was the series-winner, after Chris Mueller’s second goal of the game, scored on a power play with 46 seconds left in regulation and goaltender Yann Danis on the bench for an extra attacker, tied the score at two.  The Wolf Pack had forced Game Five with a 2-1 road win in Game Four Tuesday night, with Tyler Brown scoring the third-period game-winner and Danis making 28 saves.

Full Speed Ahead:  “Full Speed Ahead” is the official Wolf Pack playoff slogan.  This comes from the ship U.S.S Hartford, which served as Admiral David Farragut’s flagship during the Civil War. During the battle of Mobile Bay, while on the deck of the Hartford, Farragut famously said, “Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!”.

The Wolf Pack 2015 Calder Cup Playoffs are presented by Amtrak.

After ousting Providence in the first round, the Wolf Pack now move on to battle the Hershey Bears in a best-of-seven second-round series.  The Bears were victorious over the Worcester Sharks in the first round, three-games-to-one.  The Bears are the top affiliate of the Washington Capitals, so the Ranger and Capital organizations are now battling one another in both the Stanley Cup Playoffs and the Calder Cup Playoffs.

The Wolf Pack will travel to Hershey for the first two games of the series, this Wednesday, May 6 and Friday, May 8.  Faceoff at the Giant Center is 7:00 PM for both Games One and Two.

The Wolf Pack’s first two home games of the series are set for Sunday, May 10 at 3:00 and Monday, May 11 at 7:00.  Due to scheduling conflicts at the XL Center, those games will be played at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA.  If a Game Five is necessary, it will be in Hershey Wednesday, May 13, with faceoff at 7:00, and Game Six would be at the XL Center Friday, May 15 at 7:00.  If the series requires a Game Seven, that would be in Hershey Sunday, May 17, facing off at 5:00.
