Wolf Pack Weekly, March 28-April 3

Mar 28, 2016

The Wolf Pack (36-28-3-0, 75 pts., .560 pts. percentage) earned three of a possible six points in three games this past week.  The week began with a 3-2 overtime loss at home to Providence on Wednesday, a result that snapped a six-game Wolf Pack win streak, and a run of ten consecutive wins in games that went beyond regulation.  The fans at the XL Center saw bonus hockey again on Friday night, and the Wolf Pack got back into the win column with a 2-1 overtime victory over Bridgeport.  Chad Nehring’s 20th goal of the season was the winner in that one, 1:18 into the extra session.  On Saturday night in Allentown, PA, the Wolf Pack suffered its first regulation loss in nine games (7-1-1-0), falling 2-1 to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

This week:  The Wolf Pack are in action three times this week, twice at home.  The Wolf Pack travel to Albany Tuesday night, wrapping up their six-game season series with the Devils in a 7:00 PM game.  Then it’s back-to-back home games at the XL Center Friday and Saturday evenings.  Hershey is in town on Friday night at 7:15, and that is the last chance in the regular season to take advantage of $1 hot dogs and $2 beers through the start of the second period.  On Saturday night the Portland Pirates make their last Hartford visit of the regular season, with faceoff at 7:00.

Tuesday, March 29 at the Albany Devils (New Jersey) at the Times Union Center, 7:00 PM

  • This is the last of six games on the year between the Wolf Pack and Devils, and Hartford’s last of three visits to Albany.  The Pack are 2-3-0-0 in the season series so far and have split two previous road games against the Devils, winning 3-2 in overtime January 20 and dropping a 3-0 decision February 6.

  • Albany starts the week 39-17-8-2 for 88 points and a .667 winning percentage, and in second place in the North Division, 13 points ahead of second-place Utica.  The Devils have a regulation loss and a shootout loss in their last two games, but are 6-2-0-2 in their last ten.

  • Veteran forward Jim O’Brien scored his 17th goal of the season in the Devils’ last game Saturday, a 3-2 shootout loss at Hershey, making him the top goal-scorer currently on the Albany roster.
