Wolf Pack Weekly, February 15-21

Feb 15, 2016

The Wolf Pack (25-23-2-0, 52 pts., .520 pts. percentage) got back on the winning track Sunday, snapping a three-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over the Rochester Americans at the XL Center.  Travis Oleksuk’s third-period goal was the game-winner, and Magnus Hellberg made 31 saves for his tenth win in his last 13 decisions.  Prior to that, the Wolf Pack lost a pair of games to start the weekend, falling 3-1 at home to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday and 7-3 in Bridgeport on Sunday.  The Pack are 11-4-0-0 in their last 15 games and enter the week six points out of the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

This week:  The Wolf Pack play three games this week, two at home.  On Wednesday night, “Winning Wednesday”, Hartford hosts the Providence Bruins at the XL Center at 7:00 PM.  Ken Gernander’s club then has Friday night off, before traveling to Springfield on Saturday night for a 7:00 game and returning home to battle the Binghamton Senators Sunday.  Faceoff for Sunday’s matinee is 3:00.

Wednesday, February 17 vs. the Providence Bruins (Boston) at the XL Center, 7:00 PM

  • Every Wednesday-night Wolf Pack home game in 2015-16 is a “Winning Wednesday”.  If the Wolf Pack win, fans can show their Winning Wednesday ticket at the Agera Energy Ticket Office at the XL Center and receive a free ticket to the next Wolf Pack home game, which is this Sunday, February 21 vs. Binghamton (some restrictions apply).

  • The Bruins (24-15-8-2, 58 pts., .592) have won four straight and haven’t lost a game in regulation since New Year’s Eve, going 12-0-3-1 in their last 16.

  • Rookie Frank Vatrano has 10-8-18 in nine games with Providence since returning January 21 from a two-and-a-half-month recall stint with the parent Boston Bruins.  Vatrano has 20-10-30 in only 19 AHL games on the year.

  • The Wolf Pack are 3-2-0-0 in five games against the Bruins this season, with all three wins coming in overtime.  The Pack have posted OT wins in both of their previous two home outings in the season series, a 4-3 victory October 14 and a 2-1 triumph on Halloween Night.

  • The Falcons, who trail the field in the Atlantic Division with a record of 18-23-3-4 (43 pts., .448), have won only four of their last 11 games, but have at least a standings point eight of those contests (4-3-2-2).

  • Springfield defenseman Philip Samuelsson (4-20-24 in 42 GP) brings a five-game point-scoring streak into the week.  The son of New York Ranger assistant coach, and former Wolf Pack assistant, Ulf Samuelsson has one goal and eight assists for nine points during the run.
