Wolf Pack Weekly, December 2-8

Thanksgiving week produced a win and two close losses for the Wolf Pack (9-10-0-2, 20 pts.), who enter this week tied with Adirondack for third place in the Northeast Division.  The Pack headed into the Thanksgiving holiday with a 4-1 victory over the Portland Pirates Wednesday at the XL Center, but suffered a 3-2 loss in Bridgeport on Black Friday.  Then on Saturday, the Wolf Pack dropped a 3-1 home decision to the Eastern Conference-leading Manchester Monarchs.  J.T. Miller had a goal and an assist in Wednesday’s win, in his return to the AHL, Jeff Malcolm posted his first career AHL victory with 23 saves and Stu Bickel had his first three-point game as a pro, with three assists.

This week:
The Wolf Pack face their first three-games-in-three-days stretch of the season this weekend, starting with a visit to Adirondack on Friday night (7:00 PM faceoff).  After that the Pack play a home-and-home set with Springfield, on the road Saturday night (8:00) and at the XL Center on Sunday (3:00).

Friday, December 6 at the Adirondack Phantoms (Glens Falls Civic Center), 7:00 PM

  • The Phantoms come into this week 9-9-0-2 for 20 points, tied with the Wolf Pack for third place in the Northeast Division.  Adirondack has won two of its last three after a four-game losing streak.
  • Former Whale scoring leader Kris Newbury re-joined the Phantoms on November 9, and has 4-4-8 and 68 penalty minutes in 12 AHL games on the year.
  • This is the third meeting of the year between the Wolf Pack and Phantoms, and Hartford’s second visit to Glens Falls.  The Wolf Pack swept a home-and-home series October 11 and 12, winning 5-4 in a shootout at home and 3-2 on the road.

Saturday, December 7 at the Springfield Falcons (MassMutual Center), 8:00 PM

  • The Falcons are on a 7-0-1-0 run and sit atop the Northeast Division.  Springfield in 14-3-1-1 for 30 points, four points ahead of second-place Albany in the Northeast and four points behind Manchester for the Eastern Conference lead.
  • This is already the fourth visit of the season for the Wolf Pack to Springfield, and the Pack are 0-2-0-1 in their first three.  Hartford’s last trip to Springfield November 23 ended in a 4-0 loss.
  • Goaltender Mike McKenna, who made 15 saves to shut out the Wolf Pack in Springfield’s 4-0 win November 23, rang up his second consecutive whitewash in the Falcons’ last game, making 26 saves in a 3-0 home win over Portland on Saturday.

Sunday, December 8 vs. the Springfield Falcons at the XL Center, 3:00 PM

  • At this game, and all Wolf Pack Sunday home games, fans can purchase “Click It or Ticket Family Value Sunday” packs, which include two tickets, two hot dogs and two sodas, starting at only $35. 
  • The Wolf Pack will be having a birthday celebration at this game for Sonar, the team’s lovable mascot, and it’s also Autograph Day.  The entire Wolf Pack team will be conducting an autograph session after the game in the XL Center atrium.  Fans are invited to bring items for the players to sign, with a limit of two items per person.
  • This is the Falcons’ first of six visits on the year to the XL Center.  Last season the Whale were 3-3-0-0 in home action against Springfield.

Friday-night Wolf Pack home games are also special evenings in the Comcast Coliseum Club, which hosts “Hawk’s Nest”, with Bob “Hawk” Crawford, the play-by-play voice of the Wolf Pack, chatting live from 6:00-6:20 PM with different Wolf Pack-themed guests, and taking questions from the patrons enjoying the Comcast Coliseum Club’s wide array of dining and beverage options.  The Comcast Coliseum Club restaurant and bar area is open two hours prior to every Wolf Pack home game, to everyone holding a ticket to the game.
